It Is a Trick and Christians Celebrating Halloween Should Treat Themselves to Scripture and Truth

I have often wondered WHY ANY CHRISTIAN would support, endorse, or even question if they should be celebrating Halloween. We are talking about a holiday that originated from necromancy, the conjuring of the dead, a pagan holiday, with ties to the occult and witchcraft, something that is clearly in opposition to what the bible teaches.  Did you know that Wikipedia lists Halloween as “the most commonly observed Holiday by Western Christians and non-Christians around the world”? Appalling.

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, – 2 Corinthians 6:17 (KJV).  See also Isaiah 52:11, Jeremiah 15:17, Revelation 18:4.

I realize this topic is embedded in controversy. I realize it’s controversial because people tend to defend deceptions and traditions of man, rather than biblical principles.  I really do understand “in their hearts” Christians are celebrating this as a fun time of  the year, and they are not conjuring up spirits as the occultists are doing.  I totally get that dressing up little Amy as an Angel, rather than a devil or witch, is seemingly harmless.  But the reality is, all of this stands to justify a pagan holiday, designated by the underworld and paraded as a “child-friendly” celebration by Christians.

I had young kids once, too.  I understand kids love candy and playing dress-up, Satan understands this also. So the excuse that Halloween is fun for kids and is not being celebrated as a pagan ritual, crashes and burns for me, in a big way. It simply does not hold up to biblical teaching, no matter how much it is masqueraded or downplayed. PERIOD.

Christians should BOO HALLOWEEN at all COSTS!

The truth is, the devil still wins regardless of your motive or intention for celebrating a pagan, YES PAGAN, holiday.  He still got you to participate in a ritual with paganish and evil roots.  Satan does not really care how he gets you to compromise, as long as you do it. So by participating and advocating a pagan holiday, you are apart of his ritual. There is no justification for it at all.  Its kind of like saying, “a little white lie is not the same as a big lie.”

The bible makes it very clear and points out  – .And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2).

There is no doubt, a great work of deception is being wrought by seducing spirits and satan himself. Jesus warned us:  “Take heed that no man deceive you.”  -Matthew 24:4 (KJV).  So let me ask you, have you been deceived?

My church puts on a Harvest Festival as an alternative.  Does that make it okay?

No matter how you dress up or alter the holiday, it is still pagan.   God specifically called us to be SEPARATE, so consider it glorious to be left out of a satanic holiday.

Scripture teaches us that satan is the father of lies and a deceiver (John 8:44;2 and Thessalonians 2:9) and he cleverly disguises himself as an “angel of light.” And those who follow him, practice the same deceit (2 Corinthians 11:13-15).

Halloween has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with JESUS CHRIST, and everything to do with SATAN.  So the real question is not whether a Christian should celebrate Halloween, but whether JESUS WOULD CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN?  I hardly think any bible believing Christian could or would answer that question with a “yes.”

Can a Christian celebrate Halloween without participating in the pagan rituals?

Can a Christian go to an abortion clinic and have an abortion, and still claim to be pro-life and have the spirit of Christ?   Can a pastor teach that homosexuality is okay, and still be considered a righteous preacher? Can a Christian dabble in horoscopes and claim that it is not of the occult world?  Would you invite a satanist over for dinner?  Would you buy Tarot cards for your child? Or a Ouija Board?  Bible believing Christians would answer NO to all those questions.  So, then why would Christians allow their child to dress up and play with the devil?

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. – Ephesians 6:12 (KJV).

What is it about compromise that Christians do not understand?  What about being the light and the salt for Christ?  (Matthew 5:13-16). What exactly does HALLOWEEN have to do with JESUS CHRIST?

14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? –  2 Corinthians 6:14 (KJV).

Like most traditions, we just seem to robotically follow and promote them, without ever questioning their origins or truths.

Halloween can be traced back to the pagan religion of Druidism. Halloween evolved from the Druids pagan festival known as Samhain. The Druids, who were necromancers and occultists, believed that Halloween, which marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of the new winter season, was a transitional period for the dead. This transitional day, October 31st, is believed to be when a “bridge to the world of the dead ” was opened. A time when the “veil to the spirit world” was so thin that Druids would perform chants and rituals to summons the dead to cross over.  This is also a day when humans were sacrificed to satan.  Samhain, known today as Halloween, is the most revered holiday by Wiccans, pagans, and Satanists.

The Ritual of Samhain

In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III, of the Roman Catholic Church, adopted the practice too, with a spin. Gregory designated it as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All Saints’ Day, incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and would later be renamed to Halloween.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! -Isaiah 5:20 (KJV).

Over time, Halloween was later adopted by the secular world.  The practice was then turned into a night of festivities that incorporated children into the practice. The tradition added the novel idea of trick-or-treating for candy and dressing up as devils, witches, ghouls, or other characters. All make-believe and fun, but still representative of the underworld of satan, who makes all sin fun, right?  The fact that the holiday was made child friendly is probably the biggest deception of this evil practice.

Halloween is nothing more than a pagan tradition to honor the practices of the occult. Just because the veneer is masqueraded as “playing dress-up and giving out candy” does not change its meaning or satanic origin.  Halloween has has been repackaged and adopted by Christians and that is the deception. A deception that continues to plague and divide the body of Christ. Has satan beguiled you to believe that this is a harmless holiday?

Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.- 3 John 1:11 (KJV).

Let’s take a look at what scripture has to say about “traditions of man.”

Jesus describes tradition as hypocrisy, blindness, and vanity (Matthew 15:1-20; Mark 7:1-23). Paul referred to it as philosophy and vain deceit (Colossians 2:8), and Peter likened it to an emptiness coming to nothing.

18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;-1 Peter 1:18 (KJV).

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. – Colossians 2:8 (KJV).

While scripture does not mention the word “Halloween” JESUS did tell us there is NOTHING new under the sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9). If there is nothing new under the sun, that means we can expect to find something mentioned in the bible in regards to the practices of Halloween. Our search should not be for the WORD Halloween, but rather on the teaching Christ gave us in regards to darkness, traditions of man, and occults.   When we look at it from this perspective, we see that scripture has a whole lot to say about paganism, witchcraft, sorcery, divination, necromancy, and darkness.  Scripture alone gives us enough tangible evidence and guidance to make a GODLY DECISION about Halloween. After all, our lives should mirror what GOD wants, not what the world deems acceptable, and most definitely not what Christians dream up as alternatives for celebrating a pagan holiday.

21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.-1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 (KJV).

Ephesians

The bible give us a tremendous amount of information about demons and evil spirits.   Paul writes of them in 1 Timothy 4:1.  Luke reports it in Acts 16:11-18. Matthew tells about eyewitness accounts in Matthew 4:24; 8:16-17.

We find in scriptures:

  • Devils mentioned 55 times
  • Familiar spirits 16 times
  • Lying spirits 4 times,
  • foul (the Greek translation is  “unclean”) 2 times
  • Jealous spirit 2 times
The Old Testament tells us that witchcraft was a crime punishable by immediate death.

Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. -Exodus 22:18 (KJV).

Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.- Leviticus 19:31 (KJV).

And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people. – Leviticus 20:6 (KJV).

A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them. -Leviticus 20:27 (KJV).

I realize this is the law of the Old Testament, but the point is, the sin was so egregious to God, that it commanded the immediate punishment of death. In reality this teaching still applies, those who practice in the occult will DIE a death not by stoning, but in the everlasting lake of fire.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death -Revelation 21:8 (KJV).

God also gave clear instructions forbidding the mingling or associating with those who participate in any practices associated with the occult:

When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.13 Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God.14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.-Deuteronomy 18:9-14 (KJV).

If we turn our attention to the New Testament, we are given even more examples. The infamous story of Simon reveals to us that Christianity and the occult are in opposition of one another, and carries a heavy punishment by God.

But there was a certain man, called Simon, which before time in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. – Acts 8:9-11 (KJV).

Then there is the story of Elymas the sorcerer, who Paul describes as a child of the devil and an enemy of righteousness, who perverted the ways of God. Elymas was given a punishment of blindness for his involvement in the occult.

And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him.10 And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? 11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. – Acts 13:6-11 (KJV).

Paul traveling to Philippi, came across a fortune-telling girl, who lost her demonic powers after Paul cast the demons out.  What we should take notice of here is that Paul refuses to even allow “good” words (flattery) to come from a demonically possessed person:

16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour. -Acts 16:16-18 (KJV).

God warns us throughout scripture not to seek out mediums or sorcery, psychics, or those who perform séances, etc (Leviticus 19:31).  This includes involvement with horoscopes, tarot cards, Ouija boards, and other demonic “sorcery and witchcraft” items.  We can easily see how HALLOWEEN IS in fact mentioned in the bible.  Any of these practice invites demonic activity, and is forbidden by God.

The Ephesians confessed their involvement in witchcraft and denounced the practice by burning all items relating to the underworld occult:

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. – Acts 19:19 (KJV).

As Christians, we are not to fear the devil, nor give him a place in our lives. We are called to be separate, a shining light on a hill. What kind of witness for Jesus are you being, by participating in a pagan holiday?

We can clearly see from scripture that Halloween is a practice forbidden by God. It is in opposition to what the bible teaches. For those who receive this teaching, and are looking for ways to explain this to their children, I recommend the book, “Mommy, Why Don’t we Celebrate Halloween,”  I used to read this book to my children when they were younger. As families, we must decide what is more important, following God, or giving into the deception of Satan.

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. -Joshua 24:15 (KJV).

If you are angry or upset by the reality of these truths, I urge you to strongly consider how satan operates, moreover, how does satan lure people in?   Does he not make sinning seem fun and mask its evil? Does he not convince the world that ” it’s not that bad?” I am picturing Eve in the Garden of Eden, accepting the forbidden fruit from Satan.

Satan lures people in through deceptive practices. He hides evil with veneers of good.  When we peel those veneers back, we see the horrifying truths.  Satan starts with young and impressionable minds. Teaching children that dressing up as goblins, witches and ghosts,or that bloody depictions of make-believe murder are fun. So for one day a year, all of this evil is downplayed and portrayed in a “good and make-believe light.” It is indeed a very manipulative and contradictory practice.

Would we joke about a child sacrifice?  Is it a joke that your neighbor’s yard is decorated as a graveyard? Or that they have make believe dead bodies hanging from trees?  When we explain away and downplay this practice of calling evil good,  we become victims to the manipulation of truth. It is these small steps into darkness that make the next steps of Satan’s deception easier. This is exactly how Satan operates, slowly luring his prey in.   When we begin emulating his practices of evil and downplaying them, we become scoffers and blinded to the truth.  If Satan revealed his true plans, showing the horrific reality of evil that lurks in his world, he would not be able to easily lure people to him.  So instead, he deceives the world by using seemingly harmless tactics of deception, masking the evil, and making it appear fun and good.

For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.-2 Thessalonians 2:7 (KJV).

Why should we be teaching our children to emulate the world?  Why should we downplay the forces of darkness and call it acceptable because Christians, like satan, are parading it around as “angels of light”? There is nothing Christ like about teaching children to downplay or manipulate truth.  No matter how you spin it, no matter how angry the truth makes you, if you love JESUS, you will follow him, not this world.

I hope you take this teaching in love, and not be offended by it.  I pray that the wisdom of JESUS CHRIST be imparted to everyone who reads this. We are children of God. We were bought with a price, and we should remember that we are advocates of Christ, called to be separated from darkness and the world.

Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; – Philippians 1:27(KJV).

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God- Galatians 5:20-21 (KJV).

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils – 1 Timothy 4:1 (KJV).

And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not- 2 Peter 2:2-3 (KJV).

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect -Matthew 24:24 (KJV).

While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of
