The Once in a Generation ‘Super Bloodmoon Eclipse’ Captured In Stunning and Breathtaking Photos Around the World!

On the Eve of Sunday, September 27th, people from around the world “looked up” to see the moon bathed in the blood-red light of a total eclipse, the rare and once in a generation celestial event known as the “Super bloodmoon eclipse.”

For the first time in three decades a supermoon — the time when the moon is at its closest orbit to the Earth, making it appear around 14% bigger — combined with a lunar eclipse, giving the moon an ethereal red glow.

This rare phenomenon only happens when a full lunar eclipse coincides with the moon’s closest approach to the Earth. This celestial event had not occurred in unison for 33 years, and another 18 years will pass before we get to experience a supermoon eclipse again.

The fused phenomena lasted for one hour and 12 minutes! Below is animation of the Super Bloodmoon Eclipse in 9 Seconds!

How did it look in different parts of the world?

The full supermoon eclipse was visible from the eastern half of North America, South America and the western half of Africa and Europe. Stargazers on the East Coast of the United States were particularly well positioned to see it based on weather conditions and the convenient time of night it occurred.

Stargazers in the western half of North America, the rest of Europe and Africa, the Middle East and South Asia did not miss out entirely. But they were treated to just a partial eclipse, and so the missed out on the full crimson hue.

These photos are simply breathtaking, reminding us “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” – Psalm 19:1 (KJV).

Photographer Vincent James wrote on his Instagram page about this photo: "I was about to give up after getting completely skunked at the Marin Headlands trying to catch the rising #Supermoon #LunarEclipse - while driving home I made one last attempt at the Ferry Building and although it wasn't the massive epic silhouette I wanted, it still was cool to see this dusky red mysterious moon hanging over the Bay Bridge. There were hundreds people all along the waterfront looking up, it was kind of cool. This was about the best I could do though given the last minute change of plans!" (Photo: Courtesy vjamesphoto)
