He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. -Psalm 46:9 (KJV).
People across the region have posted stunning pictures online of huge clouds of dust that speak for themselves. The deadly sandstorm is so large it can be seen from space. NASA has shared an image of the raging dust and sand, which caused breathing problems, reduced visibility in parts of Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus, Israel and Iraq and even forced school closures.
“It is unbelievable. This must be some test,” Mansour, a Damascus resident, told AP. “It’s hot. Temperatures are high and above that we have this dusty weather! It is something beyond reasonable. Enough please!”
The Lebanese Health Ministry said that 750 people had been hospitalized with respiratory problems, and asked local residents to go outside only with face masks.
Syria’s state-run news agency SANA reported that three people in the central Hama province had died in the sandstorm, adding that there were “over 3580 cases of asphyxia, dyspnea, breathlessness and asthma were reported by directors of health departments in several provinces.”
Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told AFP:
“There were four [killed] in Deir Ezzor, including a child and an elderly woman, as well as another child in Hama province and a person in Daraa.” According to the group, there were fewer airstrikes in Syria on Monday due to the storm.
In Jordan, schools either shut down or sent children home early, AP reported. In Cyprus, aircraft had to be diverted to Pathos from Larnaca’s airport after visibility fell to 500 meters.
“We have had sandstorms before, but not of this intensity. It’s very rare for this time of year, too, and it’s covering the entire region,” a Cypriot metrological office official told Reuters.
Israeli health authorities have warned the elderly, the young and pregnant women not to stay outdoors for prolonged periods of time, with especially large levels of dust registered in Jerusalem, the Golan Heights and the Judea region in the West Bank, Haaretz reported.
Israel National News Reports:
Magen David Adom paramedics provided medical care to over 255 people throughout the day on Tuesday as a heavy dust storm engulfed the Jewish state.
According to MDA, among the victims were over 145 people suffering from shortness of breath and asthma attacks, more than 30 civilians who fainted, and over 80 people who suffered a worsening in their heart diseases.
The numbers constitute a significant increase from the average amount of people Magen David Adom treats daily.
Due to the dust storm, air pollution in Israel is especially high, particularly in Jerusalem, where, according to the Environmental Protection Ministry, pollution is hundreds of percent greater than normal.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Environmental Protection Ministry issued a public health warning to avoid outdoor activity, primarily intended for people with heart and/or lung diseases, the elderly, children, and pregnant women.
The haze will continue throughout Tuesday evening and night, though weather conditions are expected to improve Wednesday morning.
In addition to the dust, temperatures will be slightly higher than normal, with chances of local showers in the Galilee and the Golan Heights. The heatwave is expected to continue tomorrow and Thursday, before a light drop in temperature on Friday.
There will be southwesterly winds along the coast, reaching up to 30 kilometers per hour. Waves are expected to reach up to 110 centimeters high.
God is trying to get the attention of those, perhaps to stop the violence, to bring and turn people back to him…his message is clear, and he is not ashamed to take ownership of the destructions and calamities! All of these horrible events are nothing in comparison to a lifetime in hell. Consider them a mercy warning. On a grand and global scale, many have forgotten GOD and have been narcissistically focused on their own business, instead of “our father’s business.” Job clearly tells us that GOD uses weather for correction and mercy! There is no doubt with all the madness and violence taking place throughout the Middle East, it was for correction, and for MERCY!!!
He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy- Job 37:13 (KJV).
God is speaking. God is calling the lost people everywhere to himself. It is my prayer, that people will begin to hear that call on a national level and take heed, so that future calamities could be averted. God does not wish any man to perish. Just as Jonah preached to the Ninevites and they repented and God lovingly responded:
And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not – Jonah 3:10 (KJV).
If there be any person unsaved who reads this, please see these phenomenal events as God’s way of speaking to us, warning us. He has always used natural events to get our attention. He is doing this because he is merciful, and wants to help us, so we can see our dependence on him, to save us! Only Jesus can help us – only Jesus can sustain and deliver us.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid – John 14:27 (KJV).
Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped – Isaiah 35: 4-5 (KJV).
