Jerusalemites woke up to incessant downpour and hail, with 35 mm of precipitation falling in the capital since 3 am; eastern Israel streams also experience flooding.
Rescue teams were called early Thursday morning to dozens of homes and roads across Jerusalem after incessant downpour of rain and hail caused flooding throughout the capital.
According to the Israel Meteorological Service, some 35 mm of rain fell in Jerusalem since 3am Thursday.
Rescue teams aided civilians stuck with their vehicles in giant puddles created on roads, as well as residents whose homes were flooded in the neighborhoods of Mea Shearim, Katamon, Talpiot, Baka, Ramot, Shmuel HaNavi, Ras al-Amud and Jabel Mukaber.
Magen David Adom paramedics treated several people who suffered from mild hypothermia, as well as a woman lightly injured in a car crash in East Talpiot caused by the harsh weather conditions.
Flooding also occurred in eastern Israel streams. Judea and Samaria Police’s rescue unit warned hikers coming to see the floods not to enter the streams or try to cross them. Those interested in watching the floods could do so from the Ha’efes vantage point in the Metsoke Dragot area or from Highway 90 over the Darga stream (also known as Wadi Murabba’at) or the Tor stream, the police rescue unit said.
Local rain will continue falling in most parts of Israel during the day, possibly accompanied by isolated thunder storms.
