When I first saw the picture of what Scientists are dubbing,’the mouth of the beast,’ I immediately thought of the Beast in Revelation, and you will see why, too.
Long before men perverted the message of the constellations and established ancient idolatry, God named the stars and set them in the heavens for signs:
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years -Genesis 1:14 (KJV).
There are references to these constellations in the book of Job, along with an explanation of why they appear as they do in the heavens. Job 26 tells us that the “crooked serpent” is one of God’s leading characters in this drama of the ages and that these constellations — these “pillars of heaven” — make up the “parts” of God’s “ways”:
“The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.
“By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.
“Lo, these are parts of his ways … (Job 26:11,13-14).
Draco (Also known as the Serpent) is a long winding constellation made up of stars, which wrap around the northernmost part of the hemisphere. It covers one-third of the circumference and reminds us of Revelation 12:3,-4 (KJV).:
And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born – Revelation 12:3 -4 (KJV).
Other verses describe this, too:
And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them -Daniel 8:10 (KJV).
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit -Isaiah 14:12-15 (KJV).
These verses explain that the constellations were devised to teach early man about God’s plan for redemption. Like Job, however, I must admit ignorance when it comes to the question:
“Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?” (Job 38:33).
While we can only speculate and know very little about these “ordinances of heaven,” one thing we know for certain:
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork -Psalm 19:1 (KJV).

The “mouth of the beast” has been captured by the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope.
The image shows a cometary globule located 1,300 light years from Earth in the constellation of Puppis – also known as The Poop or Stern.
See Video Here
First discovered in 1976, these globules are located in a huge patch of glowing gas called the Gum Nebula.
This latest image shows CG4, which is sometimes referred to as God’s Hand. Its head resembles “the head of the gigantic beast”, having a diameter of 1.5 light years (about nine trillion miles).
Its tail, which is not visible, is about eight light years long – making it relatively small in astronomical standards. Although it appears very huge and bright in the latest image, it is actually extremely faint and difficult to observe.
Its exact nature remains a mystery to astronomers.
“The head part of CG4 is a thick cloud of gas and dust, which is only visible because it is illuminated by the light from nearby stars,” ESO said in a statement.”
“The radiation emitted by these stars is gradually destroying the head of the globule and eroding away the tiny particles that scatter the starlight.”
“However, the dusty cloud of CG4 still contains enough gas to make several Sun-sized stars and indeed, CG4 is actively forming new stars, perhaps triggered as radiation from the stars powering the Gum Nebula reached CG4.”
This picture comes from the ESO Cosmic Gems programme.
To find out more, astronomers need to find out the mass, density, temperature, and velocities of the material in the globules. These can be determined by the measurements of molecular spectral lines which are most easily accessible at millimetre wavelengths — wavelengths at which telescopes like the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) operate.
ESO is the foremost intergovernmental astronomy organisation in Europe and the world’s most productive ground-based astronomical observatory by far. It is supported by 15 countries: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. ESO carries out an ambitious programme focused on the design, construction and operation of powerful ground-based observing facilities enabling astronomers to make important scientific discoveries. ESO also plays a leading role in promoting and organising cooperation in astronomical research. ESO operates three unique world-class observing sites in Chile: La Silla, Paranal and Chajnantor. At Paranal, ESO operates the Very Large Telescope, the world’s most advanced visible-light astronomical observatory and two survey telescopes. VISTA works in the infrared and is the world’s largest survey telescope and the VLT Survey Telescope is the largest telescope designed to exclusively survey the skies in visible light. ESO is a major partner in ALMA, the largest astronomical project in existence. And on Cerro Armazones, close to Paranal, ESO is building the 39-metre European Extremely Large Telescope, the E-ELT, which will become “the world’s biggest eye on the sky”.
